Papa John’s Delivery Advertised But Not Available
I love the idea that Jordan is now the 27th international country to have a Papa John’s Pizza. Papa John’s is the third largest carryout and delivery pizza restaurant in the United States behind Pizza Hut and Dominoes Pizza. Most Americans I know consider Papa John’s to be the best delivery-style pizza available.
Amman’s new branch is located in Swefiyeh across from Wakalat Street at the site of the old Burger King. I had a friend bring me a menu so I could have some pizza delivered to determine if Jordanian Papa John’s was, in fact, as good as the original stuff I was used to.
I called the number on the front of the menu (the one listed under the words “Home Delivery”), only to be informed by a very confused young woman on the other end of the line that they don’t offer delivery. I said, “Well, you’re advertising home delivery on the front of your menus.” She informed me that it’s just not available yet.
So I drove to Swefiyeh to order the pizza directly. I spoke to a very friendly manager who informed me that delivery would be available in one week…er…10 days. So I’m going to use my knowledge of the culture to interpret this statement and inform everyone that Papa John’s will begin their home delivery in one month.

I’m not a pizza person. But I love the fresh ingredients of Papa Johns, and I love the “take-and-bake” option even more

LOOOOL
I would say Papa John’s USED to be the best, but now it seems in every city there are these local pizza hot spots whose pizzas with their fancy herbs and ingredients top the chain places.
So you didn’t tell us, was it good?

you’re very optimistic
expect a new ad: Papa John’s in Amman - will start delivering in 2012

I have to admit the fact that you didn’t say it was as good makes me assume it wasn’t? I have to admit to not really being a Papa Johns Pizza fan, myself. At least the one time I had it was not very yummy…

Asoom, I agree, which is why I said that most people consider Papa John’s to be the best delivery style pizza. The local pizza hot spots are almost always better.
MommaBean, yeah it was good. The chicken barbecue wasn’t as good as I hoped, but the margarita and pepperoni were both good.

My question is do they have that yummy garlic butter dipping sauce that used to come with the Papa John’s pizza in the States?
Dave April 25th, 2008 11:30 am
Bama Bedouin, yes they do.

I’m with Asoom, In Toronto, I used to like this Mom and Pop Italian place that makes gourmet pizzas more than any pizza chain.
Good point about checking if it tastes the same. Pizza Hut became world famous because of their pan crust, but with the Pizza Hut in Amman it’s hit and miss, sometimes they get the crust right (15% of the time), but even then the toppings aren’t quite right. Plus they can’t use real pepperoni. Amman’s Dominos is more consistent though their Pizzas are boring. Will have to try Papa John’s.
Also the KFC and Popeye chicken isn’t the same either. The breading alone used to taste great all by itself. Here KFCs sandwiches are alright, but the pieces are barely edible without ketchup or BBQ sauce or something, and why don’t they have real gravy!

Hani, aside from the chicken at KFC… what is the deal with the biscuits here? In america they’re crazy delicious buttery biscuits but here… just stinkin’ hamburger buns. I’m surprised that the American community here hasn’t demonstrated outside of KFC against this heresy.

Yum! Will have to try it out.
I would like to advertise for Pizza Express in Rabia Circle. The owner was living in the states and the owner’s wife is American. They advertise they have stores in “California, Hawaii and Amman.” The number is 5544994 and they DO deliver. You buy one you get the second one free. And they send you free soda if you get a certain amount, but I always get the soda, so I suppose if you get four pizzas you will definately get soda. It is really, really yummy. I enjoy it and it tastes the most like home that I have tried. I am totally off any of the chains. (Sorry, don’t know the prices off hand.)
Oh, and you can eat there. Upstairs is a large room and they have it decorated with old hot rods and muscle cars. Something you don’t see in Amman everyday.
