Road Hogs
Do you think that people who drive down the middle of the road – straddling the lines and taking up two lanes – are unaware that they are doing so? Or do you think they just don’t care? In other words, are they selfish or just plain stupid?

I asked the same question, and one good friend of mine who happens to be a great driver rationalized it for me as follows:
If you maintain your lane, people are going to go to the other lane and box you in a risky way, forcing you to stay behind.
So what you do? You make their life hell trying to pass you, they will be in the smaller part of the lane instead of you and therefore you will have some “wiggling” space
Honking doesn’t help either!

They are stupid! as simple as that and Oh God how much I hate them when it is on the Airport road or Jordan Street highway.

I have to be honest; I do drive in the middle of the road sometimes *embarrassed*, but ONLY in one single place, down the bridge from Shmeisani heading to Jabal Amman, you know this looped and thin road going downwards? My car literally slides down there very fast and I panic about hitting the sides so I stick to the middle. Considering that I’m a good driver (I really am) I wouldn’t say plain stupidity, I just can’t, so I’ll just call it over-protection (you need that here anyway)

Dude, just keep honking the horn till they move, and when they move flip them off, and try to push them to the side of the road while inviting them to a fist fight, or you can wave a baseball bat, thats what I used to do, and everything was smooooooth

A Jordanian friend of mine is in California (Business Trip), and he absolutely is fascinated with how people actually respect streets and laws.
Driving in Jordan and attempting to walk from one place to another are potential killers :\

Most of them are plain stupid, the others are just challenging other cars in the street so they can beat everyone up. Also there are the people, just like my brother who realizes late that he’s driving in the middle, and when he does, he stays in the middle!!!

Well, you know. It depends. When there are two MARKED lanes, I think they’re usually just clueless. Now, on the road from the first circle to the second (which is only a single marked lane), I intentially drive right down the middle. After all, the people on the left are stupid enough to let in the people who jump into the right drive 6000 mph until they get to the parked cars. I get tired of waiting for them to push and edge their way in, cause slow downs and blockages, etc. Having one lane is faster than the games of chicken and people trying to push you out of the way. So, a little of both probably :).
