Kempinski Hotel, Amman: Skimpy on the Internet

I’m currently evolved in a series of meetings that are being held at the Kempinski Hotel in Shemsani.  And while the facilities have been very adequate and the service and food have been terrific, I have to comment that the internet services are abysmal.

As much as we’re paying for hotel and conference rooms, you’d think they would throw in free wireless for our convenience.  After all, they’re marketing themselves as a prime location for business conferences and meetings.  When we inquired about complimentary internet for the meetings, the business center provided us with credentials to access the wireless.  It didn’t take long, however, to figure out that the credentials worked for only one person at a time.  We need access for close to 30 people.

When we brought this issue to the hotel’s attention, they offered us wireless access for the room…at a “bargain” price of JD150 per day!  Are they freekin’ insane?  I could get 512 Mb/s DSL for a year for that price.

I suggest that if the Kempinski Hotel wants to be competitive as a business and conference center, they’d better learn to provide customers with the necessary ammenties rather than raping them for every dime…er…quirsh.

Just another way to pad their pockets. I’ve noticed many of the 5* hotels charge for internet, while the budget ones throw it in. In Mumbai, I was paying 450 per night for the room, and I could choose to be charged 9USD per hour, 30USD per day, or 300 USD per month for internet connection. I chose the hourly rate and racked up $200 worth of internet charges in 4 weeks. It’s the same stateside, Marriott charges for internet and I think uses the same rates as their international properties, while Hampton Inn which costs a fraction of the Marriott in terms of room rates, the wireless is complimentary. Even concierge level and platinum ranked guests get charged the abhorrent rates at Marriott.

I have a suggestion for you Dave!
Get a UMAX router for on lease for one month and use your own WIFI .. issue solved. Kimpinski can regret losing your business later!

this is strange, while the INTERNET is free at most 5* hotels in Amman, Kempinski still charges, and its a rip off 150/day !!

And it’s in Shemisani, which is fine if you live there but miserable otherwise… Not my favorite hotel by any stretch of the imagination.

Tried to use your contact form as I had this gripe about just about every hotel I’ve stayed at in Jordan.

What I wound up doing was writing posts offline, then hitting the local Internet cafe whose day-long prices were less than hourly prices for most hotels.

Mind emailing me, I know you’re leaving Jordan, but got some stupid questions I wanna ask as i think I want to steal … i mean borrow some content from here. I tried your contact form but … bah … feh … keeps telling me an error has occures.
