Voting Made Easy
You can’t miss it these days. Every major road sign, traffic circle, bridge or tunnel is covered in political campaign signage. But who do you choose when it comes time to vote? If you live in District 3, you’re in luck! This handy guide can help you make up your mind.
(Disclaimer: for those of you who don’t have a sense of humor, don’t understand the meaning of the word “facetious”, tend to take things too seriously or manage to get your undies in a bunch way too quickly, this post may not be for you. I’m judging these candidates based purely on a shallow, surface level: their looks.)
| Candidate | Verdict |

This guys looks ok, but wait…what’s this? No tie? Sorry pal, you’re not that cool. |
![]() |
This guys looks happy and kind-hearted. He might have had my vote had he remembered to clean up between his eyebrows before shooting his campaign photo. |
![]() |
Sorry Abu Shawareb…no vote for you. |
![]() |
The grouchy, grim expression tells me that this must be related to Oscar the Grouch. Either that or he’s Dr. Evil’s twin…except for the ‘fro and the bushy mustache, of course. |
![]() |
Is it just me or does this guy look like he would sell his own grandmother if necessary? |
![]() |
A nicely designed poster but the smirk isn’t doing it for me. Next! |
![]() |
Sorry dude. No tie…no vote. |
![]() |
I like this guy. He reminds me of a chubby Michael Caine. |
![]() |
Nice hair…check. Trimmed goatee…check. Tweezed eyebrows…check. Tie…check. Mild-mannered expression…check. The cojones to totally plagiarize the Nike™ logo and transform it into a Jordanian emblem…check. Ladies and gentlemen, we may have a winner! |
Now get out there and rock the vote!

“Sorry Abu Shawareb…no vote for you”… LOL. Hilarious.
very nice presentation of our beloved Jordanian candidates.
Anon November 4th, 2007 7:16 pm
“Rock the vote” is SO 1990’s…..how about get out there and bust some balls!
UmmZaid November 4th, 2007 8:56 pm
I totally agree with you on #5 (selling his own g’ma). Hee.
You didn’t get the old man who looks like “chubby Michael Caine” who is pictured waving his hand Miss-America-style at some invisible crowd, showing us how Parlimentarian he already is.
Frankly, I like the pic going around the Jo network on Facebook showing some of these guys in action as they really are: throwing down in the dust beating the crap out of each other. How stately!!!
T November 4th, 2007 9:12 pm
Please note, John Edwards is going round the country not wearing a tie so he must be on your hit list!!!?
We, http://www.jordanjournals.blogspot.com ,posted a blog about a lady candidate wearing the niqab and got a lot of accusations about it. I must say as I am driving round Amman, and not being able to read Arabic, it is the pictures of the candidates that make me think, oh yes he looks nice, or oh no he looks shifty (not so many she’s around). T
Dave November 4th, 2007 9:41 pm
T, not a huge fan of John Edwards. But I guarantee you he is wearing a tie in his official campaign photos.
Jad November 4th, 2007 10:01 pm
David
You voted for the blue evil eyed! so racists :p
Firas November 4th, 2007 10:37 pm
:D! Funny, brilliant!
I see that your blog new look is reflecting well on your posts!
KeeB it uB ya abu Amrekya….
And bravo, you have captured the true meaning of democracy in Jordan! Vote for the look! (Though I’m deeply disturbed that you are noticing things like tweezed eyebrows and stuff)
TIP: Go to Jerash, bring a 4GB memory card :D, one dude bombarded his election HQ building with 20 posses of himself, in one photo you’ll see him smiling, the other his arms are crossed and he got a mean look, in another his arms are wide open and he’s cracking up.

“Sorry Abu Shawareb…no vote for you.”
HAHAHAHAHHA…too funny.
And the Nike emblem, OMG it’s too obvious , it was the first thing I noticed. But hey, smart at least he has a logo.
And that guy who would sell his grandma, HAHAHAHHAHHAA, too funny.
The chubby Michael Caine is likable for real, looks like how a dad/grandpa looks like, but wait, he is smiling, he must be drunk.
TOOOOOO funny.
Dave November 5th, 2007 7:35 am
Firas, I wouldn’t have noticed the eyebrows except that his picture is 2 meters tall. When the picture gets that big, stray hairs are as long as my pinkie finger.
kinzi November 5th, 2007 8:10 am
Oh my goodness Dave, you are brave!! If I wrote about what the kids in the car say (not just mine, all the kids in the car pool)about these pictures, whew!
The least offensive: the guy who looks like he’d sell his grandma, they call him Mr. Iguana. The guy not pictured, who looks very together and has sort-of droopy outer eyelids, they call him Mr. Layalina.
(I AM working on getting them to show a little respect)
eyad November 5th, 2007 8:20 am
hilarious
Dave November 5th, 2007 8:31 am
Kinzi, my kids call the droopy eyed guy The Sea Monster. It really doesn’t help that the little emblem at the top of his posters looks like an eye, as well.
MommaBean November 5th, 2007 8:43 am
Okay, you guys are TOOOO funny. Me, I’m just wondering why the government isn’t making money by forcing them to pay to post pictures. I’m with you that the last one looks like a serious candidate (which makes me instantly skeptical). A sea monster? How did I miss that one? I’ll have to keep my eyes open for it.
MommaBean November 5th, 2007 8:43 am
Oh, and I’m SO down with Rock the Vote man! Must mean we’re in the same demographic ;).
salam November 5th, 2007 11:36 am
Dave!!!! The first guy, he’s my boss..and I helped him choose the picture with no tie!! I thought it looks more , you know, at ease, natural, closer to people ..I don’t know, something like that!! And not to use your blog for campaigning or something, but he’s a great person!!
My biggest peeve is the Nike guy ..I hate going round third circle, because I feel I am just roatting around him..
Dave November 5th, 2007 12:41 pm
Salam, so it’s your fault.
I knew it was only a matter of time before I would run into someone who knew one of these guys. I’m sure your boss is nice.
bashar November 5th, 2007 7:16 pm
nice post, I really like it, apparently I wont vote as i didnt like their looks
not to mention that most of them are greedy airheads!!
Cheers
purplestray November 5th, 2007 11:08 pm
I especially love the one who are not sure whether it’s cool to smile or not dignified enough and so end up with a disqueting half smile half grimace. Also, note that all of the older candidates are approximately 20 years older than their campaign pictures. But the one that really wins hands down is number 3, creepy bedroom eyes…eeeewwwwww.
Priv Anon November 6th, 2007 9:48 am
I completely agree. I was actually shocked the first time I saw his picture. I mean he looks normal and so not creepy!
If my ID said which voting district I belong too, I would so vote for him
susu November 6th, 2007 10:47 am
Nice post dave

It is true that many of the candidates NEVER do what they promised in their campaigns, they just blabber around in order win a “prestigious” post..and once there, you are just someone from the “public”. Perhaps voting for the highest bidder isnt a bad idea after all
Khoury November 6th, 2007 4:33 pm
Ahla TAreq Khoury you look awsome and the wallpaper design is awsome to
ArabianMonkey November 9th, 2007 2:35 pm

Arabian Monkey, thanks for the link. I enjoyed your post.
Roba November 14th, 2007 4:23 pm
Lol, that’s pretty funny!
3awwad November 14th, 2007 7:28 pm
My name is 3awwad. I am a typical Jordanian citizen. I work from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and my salary does not exceed JD 250. You can call me “Monsieur Tout le monde” if you like. Excuse my low intelligence quotient, but i really don’t think this is funny.
Dave November 14th, 2007 7:48 pm
3awwad (or should I call you “Mr. Everyone”?), apparently you missed the disclaimer. I also noticed that you posted a similar comment on Roba’s blog. And I work from 8AM to 5PM (and sometimes later than that) each day. I highly recommend working more hours as it tends to pay more.
Shaden November 14th, 2007 8:40 pm
